Vanya and the Green Knight
We’ve rhymes for the gems of our eyes, ‘amber is power and a danger to wake, sapphire is cold till the heart it does break, tourmaline motley the eyes of a fool…’
As a country, Vlahiskoi doesn’t have a strong central government, and is home to the crazy shit: like baba yaga, werewolves, gypsies, hags…anything you have heard in a fairytale. Stories in other countries that tell of absurd, strong magic and evil things nearly always start with “Once Upon a Time in Vlahiskoi…” There are vampires, drow, dragons, dwarves, humans, werecreatures, ogres, goblins, kobolds and anything else one might expect that is fantastic and probably eats people. A Knyaz rules a Volost, and these can be quite wealthy, like city-states with small villages that are nominally owned and pay tithes from their boyars to whatever Knyaz claims them.
Winters are long, summers are short. Just about everything, including the trees, outnumbers men. The mountains seem to just keep going, heavily forested below the treeline, and march up to the Icewaste.

The Vlahiskoi are the palest of human races. They are known for having white skin and rosy cheeks. Their other distinguishing attribute is that they have gem eyes. So instead of a grey blue, they will have sapphire blue eyes. And instead of hazel green they will have actual emerald green eyes. Sapphire and emerald are the most common colors. Amethyst and ruby are the rarest. Citrine and topaz tend to run in bloodlines inclined to wizardry or hedgewitchery. Dark or muddy colored eyes are a sign of mixed blood.
Blonde and raven black hair are the most common colors. Red is thought to mean you have a temper. Brown is considered beautiful because its rare, but it can also mean you have Hexewald ancestors. Chestnut or matte black hair is a sign of Khublan descent.
The nearby Barbarians in the mountains occasionally mix into the blood of the smaller villages, having naturally ruddy skin and earthy colored hair, no true blond or black. Some people joke they also interbreed with giants.
